Textbook Management Software
Maths resources for Computer Science?
I’ve almost completed my double degree in CSSE/Multimedia. CSSE stands for Computer Science and Software Engineering. The degree is nationally accredited and is from Swinburne, a major Australian university. www.swin.edu.au
From what I’ve heard, CS degrees focus intensly on maths, but out of my 4 years of study, I was only allowed to do ONE maths subject called Maths for Computing!!! This is because my course is highly focused on Software Engineering (building software and project management etc) and neglects the Computer Science part (doing maths and research etc).
I feel at a loss when I read some computer science articles because of the maths involved. Therefore I want to self-study some maths. Can somebody suggest some textbooks for me?
Check the curriculum of other universities, and study books that cover the subjects that you miss. There are about 3 or so different lines of math. The highest math class I took was calculus 3. In another line, I had a course on differential equations. I didn’t have to take any statistics classes.
It’s good to know the math because you might be tasked to write a program that will involve alot of formulas. A programmer with hardly any math experience might not understand the complexities involved.
Another CS math class I had involved data algorithms. We had to use a few math concepts to figure out how to improve our programs and reduce the number of cycles they needed (my professor was the “A” in “RSA algorithms”).
It’s hard to suggest some textbooks because there aren’t that many CS-specific math courses. The rest of the math courses are purely math.
