With my personal experience, you cannot run from hardwork/smartwork. The best is the best everywhere. But yes logically speaking I have a lot of programmer students & I personally feel that few factor counts:
a) The choice of Industry/organization you choose to work within.
b) Your Job profile: If MBA (if you are in Finance & HR rather marketing). The work culture differs.
Pressure of task, responsiblity, accountability is something you have to deal personally with your attitude rather expecting a job which can satisfy or go with your needs. Be prepared to face the worst pressure/tension as a corporate employee particulary in the initial stages of career. You may not get time for your personal needs to swim, read, party or enjoy with friends for few beginning years or just fixed forever there.
See your ultimate goal & destination – Begin with an end in mind. (Answer this question – where you want to see yourself as after 5 years or 10 years from now)
- What do you expect your income bracket to be?
- What do you think your designation could/should be or you aspire to be?
Now coming back to point. I see MBA marketing can give you lot of chances to explore the outside world rather MBA (other streams & programming (where you stick inside the company office against the computer for 16 -20 hours a day).
At time I say that programmers life sucks – there is indeed no glamour there (accept the fact) except few companies as HCL here, which provide a little entertainment to their employees. But still too less in comparison to what I feel people in PR as in Hotels, Marketing (They get lot more freedom for personal things provided they do have the sales pressure but not lacking in fun when it comes to recreate)
Lastly – Write your dreams & love for the work (no matter it may be any thing but try to capitalize on your specialization, global exposure on the subject within stipulated period of time) & then fix it as your profession goal. (Take a little more time rather to drop yourself in rut hole)
If you think you want to travel Hawai, Japan & different parts of the globe, taste different food, different cultures. Get the best out of you & expand your horizons.
Get the best knowledge, education & exposure. Don’t compromise with educational funds – Government gives lot of assistance.
Seek the facts & understanding about upgrowing sectors, job opportunities in the coming decade. Pick the Industry well, see your aptitude & have a career counseling with the professional counselor.
They will take your few written tests (Logic, Intelligence, aptitude etc.) for 15-20 minutes & guide you perfectly.
