How to search images(jpeg) , vidoes(mpeg) ,doc , txt ,ppt , excel and pdf files from a database ?
Hello . I m building a software called Knowledge Management System . This software is supposed allow users to upload files of above type on the server and retrieve them when needed . I m facing problems in the retrieving part . Can u suggest some algorithms . We r using J2EE to build the project .
I wouldn’t suggest uploading the binary, only a reference to the file. Then, also upload information about the file, such as file type, depth, color, codes, etc. This way, you can search against the metadata, and if need be, the file (on disk) can be shown/played/downloaded.
The reason I suggest against uploading the binary is because of the time it takes to upload and download, and there is no payoff.
If you really must, then, by all means – be sure to store it in a BLOB field, along with the same metadata fields.
