Part 2: Should I ignore the Cons about working for my new employer?
I have been there for 3 hours and spoke with HR and Managers: lovely people, sad work environments, show that they care about people. But I felt from my manager that he did not give a damm about others. Not interesting to speak with him. He showed me the job and he saw I could do it (using a software). He said that is fine. The company HQ is in NY and this is where current employees complained in those forums. In the UK, it looks like the company is going through a lot of changes. PeopIe complain less. I love travelling (speak 3 languages) and my manager said you could move very quickly abroad if you wish. He was optimistic and knows that I have worked a lot abroad. 3 employees were relocated to Sydney 2 wks ago, there are a lot of opps. But why did the employees in the US said that they don’t like promoting internally? . They should call me this afternoon to confirm the negotiated offer. thanks for your thoughts. L
Hrmm .. tough call. There’s some pros and cons for sure which way you decide is going to have to be determined by whats more important to you, and how badly you need the job, or want the job.
A few things to consider(based upon what you’ve given for info)
Lovely people, sad work enviorment. If possible… try and chat with few of those people… as they are the heartbeat of the company. Just because they don’t complain (that your aware of) doesnt mean they dont , perhaps they all need their jobs and keep their heads down as you meantioned in a nother question (if im not mistaken)
If your manage doesn’tnt give a dam about othersdon’t expect him to give a dam about you.
(even in regards to promotions)
The economy in the US is hurting, perhaps some were let go unduly, there has been a lot of scandals with the big companies around the world.. it could be any number of reasons the employees lashed out.
My overall take on this is as follows, Do you think you would enjoy working for this company in this location for a prolonged period of time? and if not enjoy it, could you rough it out till the “relocation” opportunity became available?
You will be spending countless hours of your life with this company, and who knows how many in this location…Maybe make a list of pros and cons, and see what list is bigger, and then prioritise them according to whats important and meaningful to you.
